About 100 years ago, I worked as a lowly intern in an effort to complete my Master's Degree in Counseling. On the last day of my internship, my site supervisor gave me a gift--a leather portfolio and a fancy pen. I was giddy! Then she said something that I will never forget for the rest of my life, 'You worked for free for me for a year, now I work for free for you." I was stunned.
That's right ladies and gentleman, she surprised me with free supervision to obtain full licensure. Something that has never been heard before in the history of becoming a therapist.
So, I made a promise to myself that when I was able to, I would pay it forward.
Paying it Foward
After a few years of being a fancy, fully Licensed Professional Counselor, I thought to myself, "Ok, it's time to pay it forward, Emily." But then the cold hard truth set in when I realized: I hate everything about being a supervisor. Haha! And so, my desire to help baby counselors was put to rest.
In 2017 I landed in The South. Boy oh boy did I experienced some serious culture shock. I was prepared for copious amounts of sweet tea and fried food, but I wasn't prepared for therapists being paid pennies and taken advantage of by employers. That's when realized: This is where I can help.
As a savvy practice owner and business minded gal I realized I could pay it forward by teaching fellow therapists how to launch their very own practice from the ground up that is sustainable and ethical. And I would do it for free. The catch? Those I teach have to pay it forward as well.
How It Works
To become a peer, you must...
Be a resident of The State of Georgia and be a fully licensed therapist in the State of Georgia.
Have the desire to be a super rad solo practice owner.
Dedicate roughly 4-5 hours of your time per month for about 6 months.
Have the desire to build a community with your peers and to put "trade secrets" to rest.
Understand that your participation to become a peer is FREE so as long as you agree to the following: Within 3 years of launching your practice, you must pay it forward by mentoring a peer and teach them everything you have learned about being a super rad practice owner so they can make their dreams come true, too. If you fail to do so, you will have a balance due of $3,000.
Literately every bit of knowledge and materials you need to launch and manage a thriving and ethical solo practice. Ask, and you shall receive.
I want to become a peer!
